PART B (5x13=65 Marks)

1. Calculate the mass density, weight density, specific volume and specific gravity of a liquid having volume of 5cubic meters and weight of 37 KN .Calculate the compressibility, bulk modulus of the above liquid it is subjected to an increase in pressure of 3N/mm2 causing decrease in volume 0.08% ?
2. Determine the total pressure on a circular plate of dia 1.5m which is placed vertically in water in such away that the centre of plate is 3m below  the free water surface .Find the position of centre of pressure?
3.  A rectangular plane surface is 2m wide and 3 m deep. It lies  in vertical plane in water .Determine the total pressure and position of centre of pressure on the plane surface when its upper edge is horizontal and a) coincide with water surface b) 2.5 m below the free water surface?
4. The efficiency ŋ of the fan depends on the density ρ the dynamic viscosity µ of the fluid ,the angular velocity ω ,diameter D of the rotor and the discharge Q .Express ŋ  in terms of  dimensional parameters?
     5. Using Bacingham theorm ,show  that  the velocity through a circular orifice is given by     V=  where H is the head causing flow ,D is the diameter of the orifice is the coefficient viscosity  is the mass density and g is the acceleration due to gravity.
